A 10-year-old boy from Valparaiso, Indiana, USA, died because of his foster mother's weight.
According to a foreign news agency, the child named Dakota Levi Stevens died when his 340-pound (154-kilogram) foster mother, Jennifer Lee Wilson, allegedly sat on him for several minutes.
According to reports, Jennifer Lee believed that the 91-pound (41 kg) child was faking pain and exaggerating his pain, so she did not move away from him despite his screams. However, the child lost his life in the incident, after which 48-year-old Jennifer was sentenced to 6 years in prison for the murder of her adopted child.
According to reports, the child died 2 years ago on April 2023. On April 25, the police reached Wilson House from where they received a phone call. Upon reaching the house, they saw that the child was lying in an unresponsive state. He was taken to the hospital where his death was confirmed, while injury marks were seen on the child’s neck and chest.
During the investigation, Jennifer said that the child had run away from home and was found at a neighbor's house. When he came home, he was acting up and insisting that he was leaving home. He was rolling on the ground badly.
The woman admitted to sitting on the child for about 5 minutes and said that when he stopped moving, she thought he was pretending, but when she later opened the child's eyes, they were yellow, after which she gave him CPR and called the police.
Jennifer testified in court that her intention was to stop the child from running away from home and that it was just an accident.
The post-mortem report revealed that the deceased 10-year-old child suffered liver and lung damage, which caused his death.
